the drawback of this is, if bio-gas from sugar cane become successful most farmers would turn to sugar cane cultivation for bio-gas. Land available for rice, vegetation etc will diminish.
Further it is not going to reduce the carbon foot print or global warming. bio-gas will have same bad environmentally effects as fossil fuel.

I wonder what type of "biogas" this is ? They don't actually say whether it's a cleaner-burning variety or not

Biogas is basically methane made by bio degradable material such as sewage, organic waste, energy crops etc..

LNG ( Natural Gas comes from fossil fuel) also contains methane.

 from Perl
Hi Guys
I am deciding to stay away from the forum. While changing my contact info, I messed up with account settings under 'perl' and I no longer have the access for it.
I use this opportunity for staying away from posting for while.
Good luck for all of you and thanks for sharing your views with me and great unforgettable friendships that I have made here.
Perl
ps:
Long live TLA and thanks for all admins who have made this one of the most thought provoking and cleanest forums related to Sri Lanka.
This forum is very dear to my heart since I used to be one of the past admin volunteers for SLNET when it was originated decades ago before the online publishing era.

Perly boy, have a nice break. I may follow suit soon. I remember there was another guy who vanished without a trace. Can't remember his name right now.

 Plastic fuel on trial
First in the world they say:
Quote:Moratuwa University Dean Dr. Shantha Walpola commended Withanage for finding the method without any formal scientific studies. "With sheer dedication and commitment he found this formula."

Interesting story, MAC. I hope that the inventor has taken steps to protect his IP rights.
Does anyone know the technical details of the process?
Here's an earlier report:
http://sundaytimes.lk/080210/News/news0024.html
Quote:His modus operandi has been to chop plastic and other waste material into bits and dissolve them in a chemical he concocted.
The mixture is then poured into another machine he has invented, steamed and cooled. The product produced on cooling is said to produce a liquid with an 86% petroleum content and the balance diesel.
