There is a Sri Lankan couple providing services to apply for undergraduate colleges in USA (specially in TX, MN, WI, OK) with a hefty charge.  What parents of students don't know is that often you can apply there by yourselves without paying a fee to a third party.  Lot of horror stories are coming from students who were sent to these schools with false promises given to them by this couple.  Students have been told that it is easier to find a job that pays for their education and even to send money home.  There is a stiff competition for student on-campus jobs approved by USA immigration.  Usually that kind of jobs pays about $7-8 per hour.  It is very impossible to pay for your colleges by working part time in USA.  


There is a student who graduated, did not have money to pay for the final semester and therefore the colleague did not release his transcript.  Without the transcript, he is stuck with no prospect for graduate studies.  There were bunch of students who were stuck in one room without money for their lodging and some of them have migrated illegally to NY area for work.  

It is possible to get scholarships from US schools that pays part of tuition.  In most cases, part time job can pay for your lodging and food if you are lucky to get a good job.  Unemployment in USA is higher than ever now and that affects chances of finding a part time position.
